Energy Drilling, Henderson partaking in rig resurgence

Energy Drilling Co. and Henderson, a Houston-based servicer of drilling rigs and equipment, are at the midst of what each believes is a drilling rig resurgence happening in the U.S. Despite the lack a signed contract for a 2,000-horsepower rig set to receive a full refurbishment and upgrade service from Henderson, Energy Drilling is confident money invested into upgrading the rig will pay off.

Through its contract with Henderson, Energy Drilling will upgrade an existing rig to feature an A/C top drive, three 1,600 HP x 7,500 Psi mud pumps, a walking system 30-foot box-on-box substructure and a 1-million-pound derrick.

“The rig has not been contracted yet, but we are confident we will put the rig to work in our normal operating area,” said Jody Helbling, general manager for Energy Drilling.

The rig renovation project will happen at Henderson’s new service center and rig yard in Houston.

“With new rig-up facilities now established in Houston and Odessa, Henderson is uniquely positioned to support the resurgent drilling market in North America,” said James Lank, president and COO.
